The Capital Region Junior Hockey League is underway.

The league had the first game played last weekend and is now gearing up for the second week of action. The Arborg Ice Dogs will be facing off against their rivals the Lundar Falcons. Head coach Murray Monkman says they have a lot of quality players on the roster this season.

"It's nice to see the depth that we have this year compared to previous years," says Monkman. "I'm comfortable throwing any of our guys out there at any point in time. The addition of Jack Einarson and Josh Belcher is huge. Those are both guys that put up 40 plus points a year in the MJHL."

Monkman is also very encouraged with the amount of local talent they have on the roster this year noting when he started coaching they had three players from the Arborg/Gimli area and says this year they have twelve.

The Ice Dogs are currently 1-0 this season after winning their first matchup against the St. Malo Warriors, meanwhile, the Falcons are in search of their first victory as they dropped the season opener to the Selkirk Fishermen. Monkman believes they can take advantage of Lundar's goaltending situation.

"We'll see what their goaltending is going to look like, I think that could be their Achilles heel, to be honest," Monkman explains. "The goalie that will be starting is a former Ice Dog and we're confident our team is going to come out on top but Lundar isn't a team we can take for granted."

Monkman says they will have a more complete lineup tomorrow night compared to game one as many players were missing from the opening contest. Puck drop for tonight's matchup between Lundar and Arborg is set for 8:00 at the Arborg & District Arena.
