The Portage Blaze fell 2-0 last night to CCC United in Winnipeg Women's Soccer League Division 1 action.

The Blaze played a strong game but ran out of gas, as they were forced to play with just 10 players due to scheduling conflicts. The Blaze had their best chance in the first half when Sheilla Taylor went in on a breakaway, on a through ball from Ashley Cvetkovic. Taylor reached the ball at the same time as the CCC United keeper and attempted to tip the ball past, but the keeper connected with Taylor's leg knocking her to the ground. Taylor made an attempt at the loose ball while on the ground, but flipped the ball just wide to keep the game scoreless.

In the 2nd half, CCC United scored the eventual game winner just 10 minutes in when an unmarked forward received a pass and popped a shot to the lower right corner. The Blaze did well to apply some pressure for the equalizer despite being down a player. They moved the ball well and had several chances in the half, and nearly converting a corner kick late in the game. But with less than a minute to play, the Blaze were just too tired and gave up a late goal from a shot near the goal line after a long run from a CCC United winger.

The Blaze (1W, 3L) hope to pick up a couple of wins this weekend at the annual Central Plains Cup and develop some team chemistry.
