The Portage Blaze's two losses this week were the official nail in their coffin for the 2016 season.

The Blaze first lost 3-0 to the California Raisins on Sunday, but they only had 8 players attend the match.

The Blaze put forward a great effort and fought hard against 2nd place Stan Kerns on Monday, but fell 3-1. The Blaze scored first with a strong wind advantage, Meaghan Welby chipped a shot to the top right corner for the lead. With 5 minutes remaining in the half, the Kerns tied the game on a breakaway.

In the 2nd half, the Blaze appeared to go up 2-1 on a great shot to the right corner from Miranda Lamb, but the goal was called back. The whistle had been blown for a Blaze free kick, just as Lamb shot the ball, so the goal was not allowed, and a free-kick was awarded instead. Lamb took the free kick, but the kick was low and cleared by a defender.

It was a hard fight, but the Blaze will now surely be relegated to Division 3 for next season. The Blaze do have one more regular season game remaining against Red Hot Pink Flamingos on Sept 18, and they are going to fight hard to end with a win.
