Canad Inns Women's Classic - Playoff Ready

It's the final day of action at the Canad Inns Women's Classic in Portage la Prairie.

8 teams have qualified for today's playoff at the Portage Curling Club including Olympic Gold Medallist Jennifer Jones. Team Jones won 7-4 over team Middaugh in the 'C' qualifying match last night. Jones outlines the turning point of the match.

"I thought there were a few misses early from out team, and we got fortunate in the 4th end. She gave us an out, and we made a good shot and got the steal of 4 which is pretty fortunate."

Team Jones is no stranger to the playoffs at the Canad Inns Classic. They've been in the championship final for the past 3 years, and Jones knows what it's going to take to get there again.

"A lot of curling," she laughs. "We grinded it out today and made some big shots when we had to. We're going to have to do that tomorrow, and try to clean up some of our misses throughout the games."

The quarterfinal's at 10 this morning and the final is set for 6 p.m.

Sweden's Anna Hasselborg defeated countrymate Margaretha Sigfridsson 7-4 in 8 ends to grab one of the 'A' side qualifying spots. Hasselborg knocked out Olympic Gold Medallist Jennifer Jones on her way to qualification and says they curled well throughout the day.

"We have beaten some really good teams, and even though we struggled a little bit in this last game I think we pulled through and kept going as a team, and that was why we won."

Hasselborg's very impressed with the Canad Inns' set up here in Portage. "You never have to leave," she laughs. "I love (the event). The ice is really good, and it's so good to be inside this whole facility."
