The boys AAA U-18 Central Plains Capitals overcame the junior Brandon Wheat Kings 5-1 tonight. This victory snapped a five-game losing skid for the Capitals and it saw their power-play heat up.

Halfway through the first period, Will Faraci outskated a Brandon defender along the boards creating a 2-on-0 chance. He kept the puck and fired a shot but it went just wide of the net.

With five minutes to go in the frame, as Central Plains is on a power-play, Cameron Trimble made a pass down low to Riley Borody and he took a shot in close that was stopped. However, Drake Sheppard batted the rebound out of the air and into the back of the net. 1-0 Capitals.

Just 15 seconds into the second period, Sam Mollot brought the puck into the offensive zone and dropped it for Borody. He fired a shot near the blue line that was stopped but Sheppard would poke the rebound loose and Borody scooped the puck up, as he was driving to the net, and put it home giving the Caps a 2-0 lead.

Only a minute later, as the Capitals had the man advantage, Faraci had the puck at the blue line and threaded the needle to Kian Calder who was at the top of the circle. He took a shot on net and it was saved but the rebound went to Ryan Botterill who was in close and made no mistake about it putting Central Plains up 3-0.

Five minutes into the period, Calder kept the puck in the zone and then looked to make a play all by himself. He made a few defenders miss on his way toward the net and he tried to get the puck in on the short-side, top corner and nearly did but his shot hit the crossbar.

Midway through the final period, during a Capitals power-play, Jackson Wilson had the puck in the corner and made a pass to Sheppard on the other side of the offensive zone and his one-timer found the back of the net. 4-0 Caps.

With six minutes left in the game, Cayden Glover had the puck near the faceoff dot and made a move toward the net. He went behind it and flicked the puck out in front for Kaden Slobodian who put it past Ciaran McVicker to get Brandon on the board.

The Capitals had a 5-on-3 power-play with 40 seconds left to play. Nathan Daignault took the defenceman to defenceman pass from Faraci and ripped a shot over the goalie's blocker to give us the final score of 5-1.

Head coach Len Dupasquier talks about their success on the power-play tonight.

"It was nice to see them get some results off the power-play," says Dupasquier. "Four out of the five goals were on the power-play, it's something that we have been working on. The guys will be the first ones to say they wanted to move the puck a little bit better than they did but, overall, I'm pretty happy with the PP (power-play)."

Dupasquier also outlines what mentality they have to have to continue picking up wins.

"This is the best Midget league in Manitoba," says Dupasquier. "What do you do to string wins together? Everybody has to come here and play on the same page. We're down some bodies, not making excuses, but guys have to be ready mentally and physically to be a difference out there. Every shift and every game means something."

The Capitals will look to continue their winning ways Friday, December 13th as the Southwest Cougars invade the BDO Centre.
