The Central Plains Capitals fell 3-2 to Yellowhead in Shoal Lake last night, locking their Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League Championship Series at 1 game a piece.

The Chiefs opened the scoring in the first, and held on to the 1-nothing lead until late in the second. Central Plains tied things up at 1 on the powerplay, with Sheridan Oswald blasting home a shot from the point. Caps' forward Chelsea Hallson scored shortly after, on a turnover at their opponents blue line that led to a breakaway.

In the third, the Caps ran into penalty trouble, getting 4 penalties in the final 7 minutes. That led to a late goal from the Chiefs to tie the game at 2. A single overtime period solved nothing, and halfway through the second overtime -- on a powerplay -- the Chiefs slid one by Caps' goalie Mckenna Wild to win.

Game 3 has been scheduled in Shoal Lake, after Game 1 was ruled void by the league. Caps' Head Coach Ferdi Nelissen isn't a fan of the Shoal Lake rink, but likes their effort on the road.

"The thing that's tough about it is the players box. Both doors are in your own zone, it's hard to make changes and it's a distinct advantage. I personally think we like the bigger ice a little better. We can fly through the neutral zone, we have a hard time getting through the neutral zone here. But the girls have played two solid games here, we've battled hard. If we keep playing like we're playing, we'll let the chips fall where they may."

Game 3 of the best-of-5 series is Tuesday in Shoal Lake.
