A 5 goal third period propelled the Caps to an 8-2 victory over Parkland yesterday.

It was a high paced game throughout, with chances at both ends of the ice, but the Caps' speed was the difference maker. Reilly Funk opened things late in the first on the powerplay and says the had a positive mindset heading into the intermission.

"Well we just have to keep the lead and play our game because you can't get away from it when you're just up a goal. You can't take them lightly, you have to keep going and keep pressuring them. just play our game."

Funk ended the night with two goals. The Caps speed started to wear down the Parkland defenders and they were able to light the lamp twice more in the second. Dawson Braun score the first and Funk netted the other.

Central Plains exploded for 5 goals in the 3rd period, putting the game way out of the reach of the Rangers. Funk says their speed has been a weapon all season, especially tonight.

"Getting it in deep on teams first and beating them to pucks. Laying the body, Hulme had a couple of big hits tonight which set the tempo, and we just kept it coming."

Netminder Riley Sveistrup stopped 24 of 26 shots on the night. He gives his thoughts on the turning point of the game.

"In the third we had a 5-on-3 for at least 4 minutes, they get an early shorthanded goal, and the next thing you know we pop two quick ones in to show that this is our barn and we don't lose easily here."

The Caps are back at the BDO Centre tomorrow afternoon when they host Brandon at 1 p.m.
