The Central Plains Caps look to get back on track with a win tonight in Winnipeg. They visit the Avros for a Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League regular season game.

The Caps lost both matches to first place Westman in Portage la Prairie over the weekend.

"Friday we outshot the Wildcats 33-18 but could only manage one goal," says head coach Ferdi Nelissen. "Saturday was a very even match with the shots being 23-21 for the Wildcats, and at times we had great territorial play in that game but couldn't take advantage of it. We had a solid effort all weekend and the Wildcats only even strength goal was an empty netter on Saturday. They notched four power play goals in the two games, and we didn't give up a five-on-five goal all weekend."

Tonight's game is a makeup game rescheduled from January 12. Central Plains stole one point from the Avros out of three meetings this season.

"We haven't played them for a while but every game has been tight," says Nelissen. "They're a top four team and fighting for first place and I think we match up pretty well against them. We think we're playing a better brand of hockey right now too compared to when we played them earlier. Even though we didn't win on the weekend, we played the first place team in the league really tight."

"Every team at this level has great goaltending. We know Winnipeg goalie Lauren Taraschuck is a great goaltender, she was here when we won our provincial championship a couple of years ago, but the Westman goalies might be the two hottest in the league. The Avros have sent both goalies against us so it could be either one (tonight), and both of them are good. We have to keep getting pucks to the net and not thinking that we will beat a goalie with a clean first shot. It's about creating second and third opportunities in front of the net, and hopefully, we can do that tonight."

Puck drop is set for 7:15 at Keith Bodley Arena in Winnipeg.
