An early third-period push wasn't enough to power the Central Plains Capital to victory over the Winnipeg Wild last night. They fell 6-3 in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League action in Winnipeg.

The Caps found themselves down by three after the first. The Wild opened the game with a shorthanded goal four minutes in, then followed up with two even strength goals to close out the period. The Caps had a couple of opportunities on the powerplay but couldn't find the back of the net.

The second period was a little more balanced. Central Plains started to work the forecheck and the ice seemed to tilt in their favour but Winnipeg again found a way to light the lamp. Central Plains didn't waste any time and answered back with a quick one :20 seconds later. It was Joey Moffat who got the Caps their first marker of the game.

Central Plains came out flying in the third and scored two goals in the first 10 minutes. Tyler Van Deynze and Jaytey Towle brought them to within one of the Wild. They couldn't keep pace though and the Wild would add two more before the end of the game, one on the powerplay.

The Caps' hunt for a home playoff spot continues when they visit Eastman Saturday.
