The Carberry community is ecstatic for the opportunity to host a provincial curling championship.

This will be the first time, in nearly a century and a half of existence, that the Carberry Curling Club will host a provincial championship. Chairman for the tournament Rob Van Kommer says he couldn't be more excited to bring the Scottie's to town.

"It's been a long time coming for this club to hold a provincial championship," says Van Kommer. "Carberry is one of the original seven clubs that started the Manitoba Curling Association back 140 years ago."

He says he was unsure as to how many of the curling club's staff members would be interested in volunteering and helping to host. When he was given feedback, he was thrilled with the outcome.

"There's been nothing but positive comments, stories, and phone calls," Van Kommer explains. "When Curl Manitoba proposed us having this, I didn't think that people would be eager to try and hold this. To my delight and surprise, it was almost unanimous that they wanted to go ahead and hold this."

Van Kommer says the lineup should be stacked with a lot of up-and-coming teams as well as veteran rinks like Jennifer Jones' squad. He says a team from Carberry will be doing their very best to make it to the tournament as well.

The Manitoba Scottie's Tournament of Hearts is scheduled for December 14-19.
