The Central Plains Capitals held their team awards last night at the Canad Inns in Portage la Prairie.

The men's and women's midget clubs recognized their top deserving players. Portage la Prairie native Drew Anderson took home the Male Caps' most valuable player award. He talks about his time with the Caps.

"It was really good, and the coaching was phenomenal. Even (Kelly Anderson and Ken Brooks) that came out and helped us were really good. They made us feel like they've been with us for 3 years, and they weren't shy. It was really good."

Anderson played 3 seasons with the club and has some advice for the younger players on the squad.

"Just work hard, go to the gym, and just never give up. Just keep going."

Capitals' Braden Frank from Oakville picked up the Sportsmanship and Leadership award, along with teammate Braeden Redekopp-Kulchyski of Winnipeg. He talks about his experience with the club.

"It was a great experience, it made me who I am today. It's a great group of guys, and very high class."

Sheyla Duncan from Portage la Prairie took home the Female Midget Caps' Sportsmanship and Leadership award, along with Mekaela Fisher of Warren. Duncan's played her final games for the club, and talks about the bonds she's made over her career.

"It's a great organization, and the friends I've met will be my friends forever. They're great girls and I couldn't have asked for a better team this year. Ferdi's an excellent coach, he's motivational and he cares so much about us."

Caps' forward Stephanie Stinson hails from Treherne, and shared the Coach's Award with Chelsea Hallson of Starbuck, and Portage's Marisa Fraiser. Stinson says it takes a lot of dedication to play for a team like the Caps.

"It's been really good. Most of my time has been dedicated toward the team. It takes a lot of time to be a part of a team at this level. The girls are great, I've met a lot of great people, and a lot of good friendships that I'll have for the rest of my life."

MacGregor's Sheridan Oswald played 5 years for the Female Midget Capitals, has the record for most games played with the club, and most points. She's sad to be leaving the organization, and thanks her coaches and her teammates.

"It's been a great 5 years, with Ferdi being the coach for my whole Caps career, he's just a great person. Definitely a lot of friendships were made, and I'll definitely continue to keep in touch with all these girls."
