In the Manitoba Major Soccer League tonight, Central Plains FC continues its quest for victory number 1 at Rotary Republic Park in Portage la Prairie.

They take on Division 3 rival King's Park Rangers. Player-Coach Tyson Guenther admits they don't know what to expect from the Rangers, because they haven't faced them this season. However, he stresses they aren't going into the match without some preparation.

"We're preparing for this game like do every game. We're getting ready to play more of a defensive game. This season has been a rough start for us, and so we're really taking this time to re-focus our plan, and changing our strategy a little bit, trying to play a more defensive game."

Guenther outlines what "more defensive" means.

"We're going to shift the way we play defense back to more the back two-thirds of the field. We've tried to play defense the entire length of the field, even in the offensive zone, and more often than not, this summer, it came back to bite us, with their opposing strikers being very fast, and just sprinting past our defense."

With a record of 0-and-7, Guenther acknowledges it would be easy for the team to become discouraged, but that hasn't happened.

"There is a mixture of frustration and disappointment, but at the same time, almost out of every game, guys are pulling positives. No one on this team believes that the record indicates our performance. We're optimistic for the second half of the season, that we're going to turn this ship around."

Kick-off is 7:30.

Also tonight, Portage Fusion are in action versus FC Russia in Division 4. That game's in Winnipeg at 10 o'clock.
