The Manitoba Games wrapped up over the weekend to chants of 'Thank you Steinbach' from athletes.

Team Central won the Sportsmanship Award at the games, and the word is they deserved it. Central's Triathlon Team brought home a few medals before the closing ceremonies. Assistant Coach John Ferg says the community of Steinbach really made it a memorable event.

"They stepped up in a really big way. They had a-thousand-plus volunteers that helped out at every turn and every corner. They were polite, courteous, and everything from the transportation to the food, to the organization, was extremely well done."

Ferg says every athlete and coach from the region showed poise at the games, but the real takeaway is all the new friendships made between athletes.

"Absolutely. That's what the kids take away. At the end of the day everyone wants to take a medal away, but what they really take away is the friendship and the memories. It lasts for a long time."

Team Central's Softball Team brought home a gold medal during Phase 2. Assistant Coach Trevor Shwaluk was impressed with the Athletes' Village, and says it was a great place to have fun.

"The Athletes' Village is a pretty good opportunity for them to meet some new players, pretty much having meals with a bunch of different teammates. And it's a good opportunity to see the other sports, as well as cheer them on."

Team Central finished 3rd with 90 medals.
