Yellowhead defeated the Central Plains Capitals 2-1 last night at the BDO Centre, deadlocking their Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League Quarter Final best-of-5 series at 2 games a piece.

Chiefs' forward Adam Robidoux opened the scoring in the first, and his goal would stand for the length of the period.

The Caps came storming back in the second, and Austin Friesen was able to tie things at one as a Capitals penalty expired. The tie was short lived though when a breakdown at the Capitals' blue line cost them, and Yellowhead converted to retake the lead.

The Capitals had a few chances late in the game with the goalie pulled, but fell short as time expired.

Caps' goal scorer Austin Friesen talks about the play leading up to the game winning goal.

"One foot each on both blue lines, you always have to get the puck over, and we just couldn't. We were banging at it for a few seconds, and all it took was a few inches, and if we would've got it out that wouldn't have happened."

Yellowhead was throwing everything they had at Caps' goalie Duncan McGovern, including bodies. Friesen says they need to be better for him.

"Obviously when they're going after our goalie, I think it maybe shook him up a little bit, and then he got off his game. But he always battles through it, and I think that's what we need to do too -- battle -- battle more."

The final game of the series is in Shoal Lake on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
