The Portage Cobras first home game of the Manitoba Major Soccer League wasn't what they'd hoped for. They hosted North Winnipeg United in Division 6 action last night, falling 3-2 to give Portagea 0-3 record on the season. It was a game plagued by cards, with multiple yellow cards given, and Portage midfielder Chad Green sent home early in the game with a red card. Striker Nick Plourde says they couldn't keep their frustrations in check, and that ultimately led to their undoing.

"Lots of cards. We couldn't hold our cool, they couldn't hold our cool. We all know how refs are. Not to blame the ref, but really, once you start getting cards you have a target on your back so that's what they kept looking for and we got called on everything."

As the Cobras are still on the hunt for the first win of the regular season, Plourde says improving offensive play, and keeping their frustrations under control will be key.

"Definitely we're going to have to strike harder in the first, and keep our cool."

Portage will now look for their first win of the season next week, they they host Winnipeg's Azzurri FC. That game's at 7:30 at Rotary Republic Park on June 2nd.
