The Portage Cobras bounced back with a win last night in Manitoba Major Soccer.

They held out for a 2-1 victory over Crescentwood Saturday to earn a big 3 points in Division 6. Cobras' Chad Green and Charles Schellenberg each picked up a goal in the victory. Schellenberg recounts his scoring play.

"Jake (Stetcher) -- about 20 yards out -- took a really nice shot to the bottom corner. The goalie made a fantastic save and it just bounced out right into my foot and I kicked it in."

The Cobras lost their last 2 heading into last night, keeping them in a deadlock for second at 25 points. Schellenberg says they weren't taking any chances last night.

"We knew we had to win it. So we had to battle hard for everything tonight, and we just couldn't give up."

Green in action

Cobras' Chad Green says haven't taken advantage of their opportunities, and the race for first is going to come right down to the wire.

"Fate's been in our own hands and we haven't capitalized. So that win gives us a little bit of breathing room, but it's so tight at the top it's going to be a fight right to the end."

The Cobras are back in action Saturday when they visit first place Interlake.
