The Portage Cobras picked up their first win of the year last night in Portage la Prairie. They knocked off Southside SpVgg 2-0 in a Division 6 matchup in the Manitoba Major Soccer League.

The win puts the Cobras at 1-0-1 after tying Les Blues last week.

"It's a great way to start the year for sure, but we could've played better," says player/coach Chad Green. "We've got a great team, we just need to put in the effort for a full game. We worked hard here, there were just a few mental mistakes from everybody."

Daylen Green opened the scoring in the first half. Donald Lewis scored the insurance marker halfway through the second half.

"We really wanted to come out and get some points on the board this first year," says Lewis. "The guys put in a great effort. We kind of sat back a little bit toward the end because they were short a man, but we're just trying to keep the chemistry up."

The Cobras next match is Wednesday against Crescentwood at Rotary Republic Park.
