Portage Minor Hockey Association's Spring Online Registration deadline is Friday, June 30th.

"It'll open up again later in the summer but it will have an extra fee, so it'll be more expensive," says President Peter Fedak. "We're totally phasing out the in-person registration and it will all be online. We're also getting rid of cheque payments, so we'll accept credit card or other online payments. We've just had a lot of trouble with cheques in the past as well."

Fedak says they're still looking at having an in-person volunteer sign-up, but they'll be phasing that out as well.

"So when you register online you'll receive a time-stamp with it, and that will determine the order that you get to pick you volunteer slots. It's no longer the earlier you get there the better spot you get for volunteering."

About 100 people have already signed up which Fedak says is a great sign heading into the season. He adds they'd really like to get their numbers back to 200 and even ice a bantam team, contact or not.

"We are currently looking at the interest level for bantam," says Fedak. "On the registration site, you can select contact of non-contact, and if we have enough we'll try to make it happen. Currently, there's only one non-contact league and it's in Winnipeg, and I doubt they'd come out here. Once we gauge the interest we may work with Central Plains, or Pembina Valley to see if we can create a non-contact league."
