Former Central Plains Capital now Manitoba Bison Sheridan Oswald's been nominated for the Bison Sports Female Rookie of the Year Award for the 2016-17 season.

"I'm really excited," says Oswald. "The team had a really good year, and just being nominated for this is really special."

Oswald had a pretty strong year in her first season with the club. She finished tied for most goals scored by a conference rookie over the season with seven. She also finished fourth in Canada West rookie scoring with 12 points. Oswald only missed one regular season game in the process.

"I think having my sister on the team really helped out with getting into the swing of things," admits Oswald. "Overall, I think had a pretty successful year, though. Starting off the season, it was a bit different from playing with the Capitals, but I think once I had a few games under my belt it was much easier."

Oswald's looking forward to playing for the team again next season. She's going up against five other athletes for the award. Get all the nominee information here
