The Portage Youth Soccer Association is dangerously close to ceasing operation next season.

PYSA Board Member Chad Green says they're down to 3 Portage board members, and if they can't fill some of the roles they may have to shut down next season. Green says it's hard to ask a 3 person board to look after over 800 players.

"Quite frankly, if that's all there is I can't really promise that 3 members are going to be willing to take that on. Unless we get some people coming forward and wanting to take part, I honestly don't know what's going to happen for next year's outdoor season."

Green says Portage isn't the only area facing this type of situation, and they're really going to need the help next year.

"I know this past year Oakville had to disband 3 teams because they couldn't get coaches. So basically it's throwing it out there to parents that we need help if we want these kids to continue going."

Green outlines a few of the positions they need to fill, and some of the details.

"Starting January we have monthly meetings, and that we only usually do until the end of the season. So come July you still get your summer and that off, but depending on the position you take, some are more detailed than others. Right now we're looking for a President, a Vice President, a Referee in Chief, a Registrar, Equipment Manager. Equipment Manager is a big one, Referee in Chief is a big one. There's an honorarium that comes with the Referee in Chief, and their job is basically scheduling all the refs. Ideally we're trying to find someone who knows the referee part of it. Equipment Manager is ordering equipment, handing it out and making sure it all comes back at the end of the year. President and VP just basically make sure everything is running smoothly -- run the show to speak -- and the Registrar you have to get everything set up for registration."
