A disappointing finish for the top-seeded club.

The PCI Saints were eliminated from the Winnipeg Women's High School Hockey League Playoffs last night. They fell 3-2 in a shootout to number six ranked Garden City to officially be swept from the best-of-three semi-final series.

The Saints jumped out to a 1-0 lead but the Gophers answered right back to knot the game at one. Portage found the back of the net to make it 2-1, but again, the Gophers tied it up. This time on the powerplay. The game remained tied for most of the second half, and overtime was needed. Kiera and Maddie Shwaluk scored the Saints' goals in regulation.

A five-minute overtime period solved nothing so the teams set up for a shootout. Maddie Shwaluk scored the Saints' only goal in the shootout, they fell 2-1.

"It is obviously very disappointing but we played a lot better in this game than game one," says head coach Jo-Anne Clark-Gillespie. "The girls left everything out on the ice and really gave it everything they had out there."

The Saints finished the regular season in first place with an 18-4 record. They lost 2-0 in the best-of-three semi-final series.
