The Portage Judo Club had a very successful weekend in Kenora.

9 fighters were sent to the Lake of the Woods Fighting Tournament, and returned home with 9 medals. Portage Judo Club Coach Brian Case outlines the winners.

"5 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze. Ryder Maryniuk, Dylaen Thiessen, Troy Doherty, Natasha Burton, and Wade Campbell all won gold. Ryder Maryniuk and Dwight Ducharme won silver, Connor Maryniuk and Sydney Pearson won bronze. So it was a big weekend for us."

Case says this tournament wrapped up their fighting season.

Nationals is next, at this point we don't have anyone going. Natasha probably should be, but there's some conflicts to training and that sort of thing, so I don't think she'll be able to go. That's it for us until we start up in the fall again."

He's looking forward to next year's class growing.

"I'm excited about it. I hope we have a lot of new ones coming in. Beginners this year are going to move up into our second class, so we have room for 15 new ones and the more we have to compete, the better off we'll be. So I'm looking forward to next year."
