The Portage Islanders are in South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League action tonight in Warren.

Their last win came in the form of a 5-nothing shutout victory over the Mercs December 4th at the PCU Centre, as the Islanders last game was postponed due to the blizzard. "We're definitely eager, especially with the start we've had. So we're looking forward to getting back out there," says defender Jeremy Brooks on the team's time away from the rink. "They've got a good goalie and they work hard, especially with the time off we'll need to get our legs into it early and be ready to compete."

The Islanders were knocked out of first pace by the Notre Dame Hawks, who are 7-1-1 to Portage's 7-0. Brooks says they had some good matches against the Hawks, and expects at least 1 more in their future.

"Notre Dame looks like they'll be the biggest challenge this year, and we're the only team that could beat them so far. It's nice we've got the two wins against them already and we see them again 1 more time at least this season so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out."

The Islanders and Mercs are the only SEMHL game tonight. They start at 8 p.m. in Warren.
