The Portage Islanders (12-3-0-2) are on the road tonight for a South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League matchup against the Winkler Royals (7-9).

After a suffering through a seven-game skid, the Islanders have found their form recently with two big wins over Altona (6-9-1) and Stonewall (4-12) last week. Defenceman Jeremy Brooks says it's definitely a relief to get back into the win column.

"Those wins are definitely something we're excited about. There are three games left this year, so we really need to focus on getting the last couple of points here to finish high in the standings, and set ourselves up well for playoffs."

Portage sits three points back of first-place Notre Dame and one point back of second-place Carman.

"The standings are tight," Brooks remarks. "The top of the league is tight, and the bottom is tight too. So these last few games are going to determine how playoffs shape out. Winkler's a good team, they managed to beat us last time we faced them. So we're excited and looking forward to a good game."

The Islanders and Royals face off at 7:30 p.m.
