The Portage Islanders finished the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League 2016-17 season on a five-game win streak thanks to last night's 7-3 win over the Flyers in Stonewall.

It didn't take long for them to get on the board as Tyler Harland lit the lamp :30 seconds into the match. Both teams would notch two goals in the first twenty minutes. Eric DeLong scored the Islanders second, Cody Lashewicz and Brayden McDonald scored for the Flyers.

Again the Islanders came out flying after the flood. DeLong netted his second of the game just :35 seconds out of the gate, and he wasn't done there either. Jordyn Boyd would make it 4-2 with a goal just five minutes after. Stonewall would answer back a couple of minutes later, and that was the last time they found the back of the net.

Zack Waldvogel and Jeremy Brooks each scored in the third period, while Delong scored his hat trick goal with just under two minutes to go in the game. He finished with four points.

Right now Portage is in second place one point ahead of Carman. The Beavers have one game remaining, it's against Morden on Sunday.
