Portage Jr. Terriers' Pee Wee teams had some success this weekend at their home tournament held by Portage Minor Hockey at the PCU Centre.
"The 18 team tournament this weekend gave our local Pee Wee teams some challenge games against some new competition," says Pee Wee Tournament Coordinator Adrienne Matthews-McCulley. "From a Portage Minor Hockey Association standpoint, everything ran really smooth. It was a complete success."
The Portage 2 team finished their tournament early Sunday morning with a win. Assistant coach Janelle Poschenrieder says they were 2-2 over the weekend, and everyone had a great time.
"Everyone played really well. We did a lot of things right. We passed the puck really well, and this was probably one of the best tournaments we've had. The team has really come together this year."
Portage 3 finished 3-1 this weekend and won their final game 8-5. Head coach Michelle Hlady says they don't focus too heavily on winning in tournament play.
"We play our games every shift at a time. Every period we go out, every shift we go out, we remind the kids the score is 0-0. We're winning a lot of shifts, we may not be winning a lot of games -- we've got a lot of heavy competition -- and we really work toward individual accomplishments for our players."
The Portage A team finished 1-3 but had the game of the weekend in the final game of the tournament. They fell 2-1 in a shootout that saw close to 20 shooters. Check out all the results from this weekend's action below.
