PCI Trojans' Grade 12 Captain Tyson Dyck is this year's recipient of the Manitoba High School Athletic Association's Ken 'Friar' Nicolson Award.

Dyck led the Trojans to a top ranking in their zone, and to a semi-final finish. He talks about finding out about his nomination, and missing a school day for the ceremony.

"That was nice, I got to leave school right? So that was a bonus! It was pretty cool getting that email saying I could come here, and to see if I could win."

Dyck finished the year with 18 goals and 19 assists in 22 games, and was part of the most consistent scoring line in the league. He was voted league MVP by coaches across the league, and Dyck says it was amazing to actually win the award.

"Getting recognized like this is pretty cool. Everyone that has supported me, and then to actually give me this, they give me the opportunity."

He adds it was a really special season for him and his teammates.

"We had a lot of guys that didn't play caps. So we had a lot of that were really good, just a group of guys. So everyone got a long, and we had a lot of chemistry because no one hated each other. It was really good."

The Ken 'Friar' Nicolson Award also comes with a $1000 scholarship.
