A local Lacrosse player's returned from the U-15 Nationals in Saskatoon.

14-Year-Old Garon Blanchard made the trip out with Team Manitoba's U-15 box lacrosse team, where they unfortunately didn't manage a single win. Blanchard says despite their record, it was an amazing trip.

"It was tough, but it was very cool. All the guys were good, and they're all really nice guys because I met quite a few of them at the dorms after and I've made quite a few new friends."

He says they knew going in it would be some of the toughest competition they'd seen.

"That's what our coach told us. It was going to be tough, and if we just kept going with hard work we would win games, or at least come close."

Blanchard's been playing lacrosse for 5 years now, 4 with the Shamrocks out of Winnipeg and 1 year with the Portage team, and has won a city championship 3 of 5 years. He says his father played a big part in his decision to play lacrosse.

"He showed it to me and I fell in love with it. It's much different from hockey -- which is another sport I play -- and I loved the aspect of the running, the hitting and the throwing. Everything it had, I just loved it."

Garon had a goal and an assist at the tournament, and hasn't decided if he is going to play for the PCI Trojans Field Lacrosse team next season, but says it could be a possibility.
