Portage la Prairie five-pin bowler Brandon Mansell's heading to a couple of big events in the coming weeks.

The 24-year-old will be representing Manitoba at two national events. He qualified as part of Manitoba's mixed team for the Canadian 5 Pin Open Championship in Sudbury, Ontario, from May 31st to June 3rd. He's also going to be Manitoba's representative at the Master Bowler's Association National Championships from June 29th to July 3rd, in Regina.

"There was a provincial qualifier in Killarney and there were three mixed teams from each Zone," says Mansell. "On the singles side of things I finished first in the qualifying round, and then it moved on to a step-ladder format and I lost twice to finish second place. The team event was a 10 game round robin qualifying and essentially the national team is the top three men and women from the tournament based on their scratch average, and I ended up being the top male qualifier to make that team."

Mansell's looking forward to getting back to the competition after a short hiatus.

"I actually took last year off from this event and it's exciting to get back into the swing of it. I've never actually participated in an event in Sudbury, so It'll be exciting to get that experience and we'll see how things pan out there."
