Randy Neufeld's Portage Curling Club rink, which includes Peter Nicholls and local members Dean Moxham and Dale Michie, are out of the 2017 Viterra Provincial Men's Curling Championship.

The 2016 World Senior Curling silver medallists suffered two losses yesterday, being eliminated after an 8-3 setback to Travis Bale in the afternoon draw.

Moxham says despite the result, it was a memorable experience playing in front of the hometown crowd.

"They all know who we are, so it's nice to hear a clap when yo make a nice shot, and a boo when you don't, so it's all good."

Moxham outlines why the team decided to make an attempt to qualify.

"Because it's a local one for Dale and myself and the boys, Randy and Pete were excited to try and get into it, so we were happy to do that. We thought if everything went well, we'd have a chance to be around Friday, and it just didn't work out."

Teammate Dale Michie calls it a great experience.

"Always great to play at home. I wish we could have got on a little bit of a run, but it just wasn't happening today for us, so unfortunately, we'll get up in the stands with everybody else now."

The Viterra Championship continues today, tomorrow, and Sunday at Stride Place.
