It's a pretty special year for Oakville's Brandon MacKenzie-Kochen.

MacKenzie-Kochen was selected 152nd overall in the WHL Draft, and he's now been selected by the Dauphin Kings 14th overall in the 2016 MJHL Draft. Kochen played his 2015-16 season as a Bantam Central Plains Capitals' defenseman, earning 20 points over 41 games played. He says it's been a crazy couple of weeks.

"It's been really exciting. I've been working on (hockey) my whole life. Working for this opportunity, and it's finally come. It's just really breathtaking."

MacKenzie-Kochen

MacKenzie-Kochen's a big defense at 6'0'' and 150 pounds, and coaches -- and refs -- have taken note.

"From what I hear," says MacKenzie-Kochen. "I'm big, strong and physical. I like to get into those corners, and I don't let people push my teammates around. It's hard to play when you're tall and all these guys are short, get a few penalties as the refs aren't on your side," he laughs.

MacKenzie-Kochen's looking forward to the off season, but says he's always thinking about the game. Get MacKenzie-Kochen's thoughts on the WHL draft here. He'll be trying out for the Caps' Midget Men's team next season.
