A couple of Portage la Prairie middle school athletes found some success at the track-and-field provincial championships last week at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.

Grade 8 Ecole Arthur Meighen School student Chanel Cabak brought home a gold medal in the 800m for the second straight year.

"It was just the the same type of thing, just another year," laughs Cabak. "I really like running because it's a lot different than skating. It's nice to have to have a balance between two different sports."

Cabak also finished fourth in the Long Jump out of 54 participants, as well as fourth in the 300m. She's looking forward to moving on to high school track next year at Portage Collegiate.

LVS student Kristen Peterson was also in a couple of events at provincials. (Submitted Photo)
