MacGregor's junior varsity girls are the Zone 7 Champions. They defeated Minnedosa 34-14 on home court last night to capture the banner.

"We had a slow start and our defence defence definitely kept us in the game," says head coach Jen Schroeder. "We kept them to one point in the third quarter, and zero points in the fourth quarter. Our offence started slowly as well but they picked it up in the second half, pulled ahead and finished the game."

"The girls were pumped to win, but it wasn't one of our better games so they were frustrated with that part of it," adds Schroeder. "Our goal at our very first practice was to win zones and they accomplished it."

The girls will now play in an Interzone game on Tuesday in Portage la Prairie against the Zone 6 champion for a chance to head to the provincial championships.

The Mustangs' varsity boys were on the wrong side of the scoresheet in their Zone 7 final. They fell 68-59 to Neepawa.

Portage Collegiate Institute's (PCI) varsity basketball teams played their final games of the West Winnipeg Athletic Conference Tier 2 season Wednesday in Portage.

The Trojans and Saints both lost to Tec Voc. The Trojans fell 91-82 to the Hornets. They finished in fifth place at 6- and will host the WWAC playoffs in Portage next week. The Saints struggled on the court and fell 77-52 to the Hornets. They finished the season in ninth place and will just miss out on this year's playoffs.

The Zone 4 Championship is Thursday night in Vita. The Westpark Royals' varsity clubs both face Shevchenko for the Zone Banner. The girls are up first at 5 p.m. The boys hit the court at 6:30 p.m.
