The Portage Padres were 7-4 winners over Plumas Thursday night in the Santa Clara Baseball League.

Jason Kirkland picked up the win on the mound for the Padres in the victory. Blake Swedlo had a RBI double and scored in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the Padres up by three.

"Their pitcher came in and was throwing strikes, and we gave up a few runs the inning before, so he was throwing well," says Swedlo. "He was throwing me fastballs and fouled a few off, finally threw a nice one and I just closed my eyes and swung and ripped my first double of the year. Those two runs really helped us get the win."

The Padres are still undefeated with a 6-0-1 record as they head into a busy few days of ball.

"It's just nice to get the first one of five to take some momentum into the weekend," says Padres' Tyler Butler.

"We still haven't lost and that's definitely good," adds Swedlo. "This run will be interesting because we don't usually play six games in like six days but we'll see how our pitching hold up and everything else. Hopefully, we get some good weather for them all and just roll on through."

The Padres have four games in three days coming up. They welcome Dauphin to town for a doubleheader Sunday, they face Neepawa Monday, and Austin Tuesday.
