The Portage Padres' unbeaten streak in the Santa Clara Baseball League continued Wednesday. They came away 1-0 winners over the Minnedosa Mavericks in a defensive duel at Rotary Republic Park.

Dustin Donald pitched a complete game for the Padres earning the win and shutout the on the mound. He gave up three hits in seven innings pitched with three strikeouts.

"I was just throwing strikes and they were hitting balls right to our guys," says Donald. "It just went perfectly. We got our one run in the fifth inning and that's all we needed."

Landon Thompson scored Tyler Butler from first base with an RBI in the bottom of the fifth. Butler led off the inning with a single, it was followed up by a Rod McLeod double.

"We knew it was going to be a really defensive game," says Thompson. "They're a really strong team and we've battled with them for a few years now," says Thompson. "It was a real good ball game to watch. I don't think we had any errors, so it was real good in that perspective but hitting wise there were only five hits the whole game and we managed to get one through."

The Padres move to 4-0-1 in first place while the Mavericks fall to 4-2 in second. The Padres next league game is Monday in Austin, the Mavericks go Friday night in Neepawa. The Padres' first ever Slo-Pitch Tourney is Saturday at Rotary Republic Park.

The Plumas Pirates won 2-0 over the Royals in Carberry. Trevor Peters picked up the win for Plumas. He pitched complete game with only three hits. Royals' pitcher Daylan Creasey gave up four hits and struck out four for the loss. The Pirates are now .500 at 3-3 while the Royals sit 3-2. They play the second of a home and home Friday night in Plumas.

The Neepawa Cubs were winners in Austin Wednesday. They beat the A's 5-1 to improve to 3-2-1 while the A's fall to 2-5.
