Portage Collegiate Institute Saints' Jill Jackson will be moving on to university volleyball next season.

The honour roll student from Portage La Prairie signed a letter of intent with Providence University College Pilots in Otterburne. Jackson was the captain of the varsity girls volleyball team this season at PCI, a graduating All-Star and a West Winnipeg Athletic Conference All-Star with the Rebels, her side team.

"I'm excited to learn more and practice with a good team. They've done really well in the past season so that's exciting," says Jackson. "I'm actually playing in Winnipeg right now with the Rebels, the junior Red River team, and we practice four or five times a week in Winnipeg. It's a lot of hard work but it's fun"

Jackson says once volleyball season ended she began shopping around different places she could attend next season, and Providence kept getting her attention

"I actually went and practiced with them a couple of times and checked out the campus, and chatted with the coach too," says Jackson, who is currently attending Red River College as a grade 12 student, working toward her goal of a career in health care. "I want to become a nurse so I want to take some prereq courses there while playing volleyball this year."

She adds her family has been really supportive by coming out to all the games and tournaments.
