The Portage Terriers ended their Manitoba Junior Hockey League Exhibition Season on a high note with last night's 4-1 win over Winnipeg at the PCU Centre.

Terriers' forward Ashton Clark had a break-out performance leading the dogs offensively with a hat-trick.

"It just, everything came together tonight. I don't know, it's the first time I've ever got 3 goals in 1 game in junior. After 3 long years of junior, it's nice to get that monkey off my back."

Terriers' vet Adam Wowryk picked up the other goal in the win. The Terriers struggled to get the puck out of their own end at times, which led to a high shot count for the Blues. Portage's Brock Aiken made 33 saves on the night and outlines his first full game of junior hockey.

"It feels good. I was a little nervous going into my first game, but once I got out there the nerves were gone and I felt good. There were times where I was feeling a little bit tired, but it's the start of the year and it'll get better."

There were two fights in last night's game. The first featured Terriers' forward Ryan Sokoloski and the other was forward Jared Roy. Terriers' Assistant Coach Paul Harland says it wasn't their best game, but they found a way to win.

"We kept at it and played hard -- and (Winnipeg) played hard too -- so it doesn't make out decisions any easier, but I thought we played a decent game."

The Terriers went a perfect 4-0 this Exhibition Season, but Harland says they're still far-off from finalizing their roster.

"We've got some guys that are a little banged up, and it'll be questionable if they're ready to start the year with us, so we're a-little-ways away from our final team."

The Terriers open their MJHL Regular Season on September 23 against the Oil Capitals in Virden.
