The Portage Pitbulls' Year End Banquet and Annual Group Meeting was last week in Portage la Prairie.

The major topic discussed was numbers. The club wasn't able to field a Pee-Wee team this year, and with a number of second year Bantam players leaving this season, they'll be doing a mass recruiting blitz this spring. President Kim Miller says they always struggle to field a Pee-Wee team.

"It seems to be that age group, whether there's just not the interest or a lower number of boys -- not that girls can't we've always kind of had a girl on the team -- and at Pee Wee you need 8 more players than the Atom group."

Financially, the Pitbulls' year was okay according to Miller. She says they're working to replace old and worn out equipment.

"Helmets have an expiry date, so we have to replenish out stocks. Our club's about 12 years old so each year we're kind of rebuilding on what we have, and replacing the expired helmets, pants and what not."

The Portage Pitbulls encourage anyone interested in football next year to get in touch with them through the website.
