Five-pin bowler Brandon Mansell is representing Manitoba, and Portage la Prairie, at the Master Bowler's Association National Championships this weekend.

The event kicked off Thursday in Regina, Saskatchewan, with the Opening Ceremonies and team photos. It wraps up Monday with a victory banquet and the awards presentation. Mansell recently represented Manitoba at the Canadian Five-Pin Open Championship which wrapped up June 3rd. The 24-year-old's looking forward to representing Manitoba again this weekend.

"I've actually taken a bit of a hiatus, I've been pretty busy lately and haven't had a lot of chances to get out to the lanes. I'm excited to get back at it in a new atmosphere with singles," says Mansell. "I have the privilege of bowling alongside our Tournament Ladies' Single bowler as well so I'm really looking forward to everything."

Mansell hits the lanes Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. He says it's a lot different from the team-format at the Canadian 5 Pin Open Championship he participated in, and won, about a month ago.

"It's a match play format, so I'll play every other tournament single competitor three times, it's a triple round robin. So each day we play seven games and each match is worth two points. You either win and get both, or lose and get none, and at the end of the triple round robin the top three make the stepladder Monday morning."

This will be Mansell's first tournament where he's actually piped into the opening ceremonies, and he's looking forward to a little bit of time in the spotlight.
