The Portage Cup hockey tournament officially came to a close last night in Portage la Prairie.

Hundreds of people were in Portage two weekends of hockey.

"After talking to all the parents and the coaches and everyone wants to come back," says Shane Moffat, tournament coordinator. "There were 46 teams in the community for eight days of hockey so it's big for our community. It takes about five months to get this off the ground and I just hope the businesses see the rewards of it."

Moffat says not only does the event showcase Stride Place, but helps out many local businesses.

"We've already got about 10 teams on the waiting list for next year," adds Moffat. "We're not sure what we're going to do, we might have to start on Thursday but we'll make that decision down the road."
