The Portage Figure Skating Club is on the road competing in a Funskate event in Stony Mountain this weekend.

Technical Director Giselle Sutherland says it's quite a large event with around 300 skaters competing over three days.  She adds some of their younger skaters will be doing solo performances for the first time.  Sutherland tells us some of their Starskate provincial skaters will be at the competition.  She says they won't skate all three days as there are different events over the weekend but, the coaches will be there the entire time.

Sutherland says for some of the skaters who are going to be at sectionals and qualifiy this year, that process will begin right away.  She adds for some it's a sport that has no off-season.
