The Portage Judo Club brought back a whole bunch of medals from the Balmoral Open in Stonewall.  Head Coach Brian Case says they went to the tournament with 14 fighters and came back with 15 medals.

He adds the performance coming out is fighters was quite shocking.  He says they took a lot of their younger fighters with a few of them experiencing their first competition and they did amazingly well.  Case says Mike Armishaw and Makayla Timony had standout performances at the Balmoral Open.  He says Makayla Timony was in her first competition since breaking her collar bone and was out for 7 weeks before picking up a Gold medal in the Under 15 Female Combined Division.

Case adds Mike Armishaw had a breakout day at the tournament, fighting well in the Under 13 less than 38kg Division earning a silver medal.  Case believes Armishaw was a little afraid to use the techniques up until now.  He adds they we're concentrating more on fighting with Armishaw and thinks he finally realized it's not much differnet fighting at tournament then it was at the club.  Case stresses he brought his level up and wasn't afraid to use the techniques he know's, which worked out well for him.
