The Portage Skating Club's hosting its annual Carnival tonight at Stride Place in Portage la Prairie.

This year's 'Hoedown Throwdown' is a country theme, and will feature many of your favourite country/western tunes. Over 100 CanSkate, GroupSkate and StarSkaters from the Portage la Prairie area will be performing in the show.

"Everyone will be in country theme outfits," says Jenna Bulachowski, carnival chair. "The group skaters will be doing some square dancing. The little guys are doing 'Out On The Ranch' where there will be a variety of animals, cacti, and tumbleweeds. There will be line dancing, and of course cowboys, cowgirls, outlaws and sheriffs. The athletes have worked hard all year for this event and they're excited to show off their abilities."

Bulachowski's excited for this year's event and welcomes everyone to attend.

"We're sponsored by Canadian Tire and Co-op, so it's just a silver collection at the door to get in," she explains. "There's also going to be a 50/50 draw about three-quarters of the way through. Last year the draw was for about $500, so that's pretty good."

The 'Hoedown Throwdown' gets going at 6 p.m. at Stride Place.
