Baseball Manitoba's Provincial Championship tournaments continue around the province this weekend.

Portage la Prairie's represented at three different levels including 11U AA, 13U AA, and 15U AA.

The Portage Pirates are in the 11U AA tournament in Winnipeg. They open Friday's round robin play with two games on the schedule.

"They're excited. We were happy to win the city championship in Portage and it's nice to move on," says 11U coach Ryan Turner. "Our strong point is we're a good close knit team that likes to have fun. When we get hot we can hit the ball well, and we've got some good pitching as well, but we're in tough this weekend so we're just looking to have some fun and play some baseball."

The Pirates' first game is against the Bonivital Whitesox at 8:30 a.m. and they follow that up with a match against the Bonivital Redsox in the afternoon at 4. The Pirates will also play two games Saturday, one at 1:30 against Swan River, the other goes at 6:30 p.m. against Neepawa first is against the Bonivital Whitesox at 8:30 a.m. and they follow that up with a match against the Bonivital Redsox in the afternoon at 4. Portage is also in Altona this weekend for the 13U AA Provincial Championship. They've got an early day to start Friday with a match against Charleswood at 8:30, and another at 4 p.m. against Macdonald. Saturday sees them play the host Altona club at 11 a.m. then Strathclair at 4.

"We've had three practices since our last game with the most recent being Tuesday this week," says 13U coach Dave Van Deynze. "We've got some pretty strong pitchers that we're looking to lean on. We've got quite a few guys that can throw the ball, and our batting has come around too. When we have a good day we can get some key hits and get some runs on the board."

The 15U AA Portage Phillies will try to capture the 15U AA Provincial Championship in La Broquerie. The Phillies face Altona at 11 Friday morning and Charleswood at 4 p.m. They'll be getting two games on Saturday as well. The first is at 8:30 against Hamiota, they play again at 1:30 p.m. against East St. Paul.
