Two Portage Terriers have made commitments to schools in the United States over the last few days. 17 year old defenceman Dean Stewart has committed to the University of Nebraska Omaha, while 16 year old forward Nick Henry has given a verbal commitment to Western Michigan University.

Stewart has garnered a lot of attention this season with his play and was sought after by a number of schools. He is 6'2" 192 lbs and put up 22 points in 44 games this season from the back end. Stewart was named to Team West for the World Junior A Challenge, and was identified by NHL central scouting as a player to watch. He visited the school last week and hopes it is a place he can really develop. Stewart says that the coach played a factor into his decision to go to Nebraska Omaha.

"I mean there was obviously quite a few reasons, but I think that was a school that was a good fit for me, and obviously their coach Dean Blais is one of the best coaches in college hockey."

Nick Henry accomplished the rare feat of making the Portage Terriers as a 16 year old, and exceeded his own expectations this year as he lead all MJHL rookies in scoring with 61 points in 50 games. He says the coach was also a factor in his decision.

"I chose the University of Western Michigan. Their coach Andy Murray has been pretty well everywhere, his resume is humongous for coaching, and I think that was my biggest reason to commit there."

Stewart said it was likely that he would be leaving for University next season, while Henry will likely be back with Portage as he will still need to complete his grade 12 education.
