Portage la Prairie's Joey Moffat had his named called in the United States Hockey League draft earlier this week.

Moffat, the 2016-17 Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League MVP who had 60 points (28-32--60) in 40 games with the Central Plains Capitals this past season, was selected 66th overall in Phase 1 of the USHL Draft Monday by the Tri-City Storm.

"They told me the night before they were probably going to select me so I was watching the results," Moffat said. "I actually just finished baseball on Monday and I looked at my phone and there it was. It feels good. It's just another path I can take to get to where I want to be in hockey in a good, competitive league."

The Saskatoon Blades control Moffat's Western Hockey League rights, while the Portage Terriers hold his Manitoba Junior Hockey League rights. The 15-year-old forward says he still wants to keep his NCAA eligibility intact, and plans to try and crack the Terriers' roster next season.
