The Grunthal Red Wings are the U-16 B Manitoba Ringette Provincial Champions.

They knocked off the host Portage Thunder 4-3 in the final at the PCU Centre, after falling to Portage earlier in the morning in overtime, which led to the deciding game. Red Wings' Captain 15-year-old Kirsten Friesen says it was a tough challenge that took the whole team contributing to win.

"I think being a team, and working with each other, it helped us to win the game. Without that, we wouldn't have been able to go anywhere. So we worked as a team, we got there, and got it done."

Portage Thunder's Kami Miller, Abby Vanstone, and Cassandra Gourley each had goals in the loss. Thunder's Captain Randi Roy says they should hold their heads high after a loss like that.

"I'm very proud, it was a hard fought battle and I wouldn't want to lose any other way. They were definitely scared, and they're not really used to our kind of play."

Portage's netminder Morgan Klassen made several key saves to keep the score close for her teammates. She says it was an amazing weekend for the team.

"I thought we played really well. We didn't really have a very good first, but then we came back and had to win our way up. I thought we played really well as a team especially, and I'm proud of them and we're all proud of ourselves for how we played and how the season went. So nothing to be sad about here."

The Grunthal Red Wings also won the Winnipeg Ringette League's Championship.
