The Portage Ringette Association has a busy weekend ahead of them.

Board Member Cindy McDonald says the tournament runs from today until Sunday and features a lot of Portage ringette players.

"There are 7 of our local Portage ringette teams taking part, that's 89 players. But there will be over 500 players in town for the weekend."

McDonald says welcoming that many people to town is really exciting for the local economy.

"That's pretty exciting the economic impact of that. People need to eat, people need to stay in hotels and motels, so it's a great weekend for Portage and we're pretty excited to be hosting it."

There will also be a few AA (double A) teams playing throughout the weekend. MacDonald adds it's free to stop in and check out some of the great ringette, and the finals are set for Sunday afternoon.
