Winnipegger Todd Fanning is the 2016 Royal LePage Open Champion.

Fanning shot a 66 on Saturday and finished the tourney with a 72 on Sunday. Fanning explains he was looking for a tournament to shoot, and the Royal LePage Open was a perfect fit.He finished 9 stroked ahead of second place Kenny Keeler and Don Jackson, who finished with a 147.

"I immediately talked to Brad and brought my son along, and a few other buddies and we just had a fantastic weekend. I've always loved the golf course here, and when it's dressed up to the way Farrol Asham had it dressed up this weekend it was an absolute treat."

He finished 9 stroked ahead of second place Kenny Keeler and Don Jackson, who finished with a 147. Fanning was able to play with his son in the Open, something he says was pretty special.

"He's 15, and he's been competing probably for a couple years now and played at the Manitoba Junior out here. But as far as playing in the same tournament together, this was the first time -- Saturday morning -- that it ever happened. It's something that -- I don't know if he'll always remember it -- but I always will for sure."

Farrol Asham finished 4th, while Gavin Neufeld finished 5th. Neufeld says speedy greens made for a tough weekend.

"Greens got really fast this weekend, they have been all week actually, but this weekend they were really fast but it was fun. It made it challenging, but it was a lot of fun. Obviously, Todd winning it -- he's a great player -- we all kind of knew when he was coming into it that there was a good chance he was going to be the guy that won it. Other than that it was a great weekend."
