PCI's gifted Grade 12 pitcher Emily Smith will be taking her talents to the U.S.A in the fall.

Smith recently accepted a scholarship to play for the Valley City State University Viking in North Dakota. Smith was excited when she got the offer, and explains why she made her decision.

"I wanted to go to a school that was close to home, so it wouldn't be too far, but also still get the university experience in the States and get to continue ball."

Smith won the Provincial Fastpitch Championship for the second year in-a-row with the Saints, along with the 2 Provincial MVP awards to match. She says how much she benefited playing with the Saints.

"The group of girls that I've played with over the years, they definitely pushed me to be better, and they've always been fun to play with. It's definitely good to play high school throughout the year, because it gives you so many more games than just playing club ball."

Smith says it's been a long road to get her pitching to where it is.

"I've always had a natural rise ball spin, it's always just spun that way, even when I throw a fastball. My change-up, which finally caught this year, has taken me years to achieve."

Smith's looking forward to the opportunity to continue playing ball after high school. She's thanks her parents for all the support over the year, and she's planning on taking Medical Laboratory Sciences.
